The Senior Director of Nursing Services is responsible for overseeing nursing care excellence and the administrative, leadership, and strategic functions across multiple clinical service line cost centers including Med/Surg, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Spiritual Care. This leadership position ensures high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and strategic direction within the nursing division, working closely with interdisciplinary teams and institutional leadership. The Director drives improvements in patient care, access, throughput, and staff engagement, while optimizing performance to meet both strategic and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of safe, quality patient care while enhancing patient experience, reducing costs, and ensuring compliance with policies.
- Oversee adherence to regulatory standards, union agreements, and clinical performance standards.
- Foster a productive and engaged workforce, creating an environment that supports staff growth and safety.
- Ensure alignment of nursing practice with policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with case management to ensure timely discharge planning and safe patient transitions.
- Lead and collaborate on initiatives with OHSU and affiliated partners to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the Director on Call rotation and provide additional leadership as needed.
- Contribute to Hillsboro Medical Center's strategic objectives, working with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Align departmental goals with the institution's strategic plan and improve operational and financial performance.
- Promote diversity, trust, and collaboration within the team.
Decision Making & Budget Responsibilities:
- Manage operating and capital budgets for assigned service lines, ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to budgetary goals.
- Make decisions on resource allocation and process improvements to support OHSU’s healthcare delivery objectives.
- Collaborate with nursing and physician leaders to enhance practice standards and improve healthcare delivery.
Direct Reports:
- Typically oversees 125+ employees across 3+ clinical service lines, with at least 10 leaders or managers, including 3+ direct report managers.

Education:
- Required: Master's in Nursing; or Master's in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing; or healthcare related field.
Experience:
- Required:
- 7+ years of progressive healthcare experience in a decision-making role, with at least 5 years of personnel management experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a related clinical area(s) of practice.
- Qualified by education and experience in the care of the mentally ill. The director must demonstrate competence to participate in interdisciplinary formulation of individual treatment plans; to give skilled nursing care and therapy; and to direct, monitor, and evaluate the nursing care furnished.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
- Required:
- Current, unencumbered RN license by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
- Preferred:
- Professional certification in nursing leadership.
- Certification in a pertinent nursing specialty area.
